Have you ever considered that what sets your business or brand apart isn’t your products or your services but your story?
If you’re like most successful people, you’ve been head down, building. You’ve mastered the strategy. You’ve refined the product. You’ve cultivated results.
But when it comes to leveraging your story you might feel unsure. Maybe you don’t think your story is ready. Maybe you’ve never told it before. Or maybe you’re still trying to understand how it all connects.
Your story serves as a force multiplier, a catalyst for your success. It is a catalyst that, when told well, can accelerate everything you do. Think of it as a lever that when properly positioned can lift you higher than you imagine you could go.
Where Breakthrough Begins
There was a time when my day job was leading a private school. But as each day passed, I had to admit to myself that I felt stuck. I wasn’t doing what I knew deep down in my soul that I was truly called to do.
So I made one of the hardest decisions of my life up to that point. I chose to step away from my safe, secure job to pursue my dream of becoming a writer and a storyteller. I had a family to provide for, but we went without an income for the next year. And I never worked harder in my life.
Finally, I did get my first publishing deal and wrote my first book. I began helping other people bring their books to life. I started helping them elevate their own messages.
Now, I get to do every day what I know I am called to do. I get to write and help people tell their stories in a way that makes the world a better place.
I believe your breakthrough begins when you start with your story. That’s why I started StoryBuilders.
When you overlook your story, you ignore your greatest differentiator. People don’t just buy what you do. They buy into why you do it. Your story creates trust, invites empathy, and sets you apart in a world full of noise.
The StoryMultiplier Formula™
At StoryBuilders, we’ve worked with many entrepreneurs, business professionals, and thought leaders across a variety of industries. The pattern is the same. Story is the one thing no one else can copy. It multiplies your influence when you know how to use it well.
That’s why we developed The StoryMultiplier Formula™ to illustrate the power of it:
WHO x S = I³
Let’s unpack what it means for you:
WHO = Who you are. It includes:
- Your behavioral hardwiring and all the stuff you can’t change about yourself, such as your strengths and struggles.
- Your experiences. Only you have lived your life in the way you have lived it. No one else in the history of the world has done that.
- Your relationships. Only you have been uniquely shaped by your connections with other people from an early age.
- Your CQ, EQ, and IQ. Your character quotient (CQ), emotional quotient (EQ), and intelligence quotient (IQ) all come together to shape who you are as you learn and grow.
S = Story and how well you tell it
All of who you are gets multiplied by how well you share your story with the world. The fact is that you could have powerful hardwiring, unbelievable experiences, incredible relationships, and amazing CQ, EQ, and IQ and still make little to no impact on the world. It happens every day.
Many people don’t do anything intentional with their story. But those who do are in a position to experience multiplied impact, influence, and income.
I 3 = Impact, Influence, and Income
People who experience elevated levels of impact, influence, and income may not be better people. They probably don’t have better stories. And they certainly don’t have magical qualities that somehow give them a secret edge.
But they have gotten intentional about telling their stories—and that makes all the difference.
The best place to start is with your story. Not the polished version, but the real moments that shaped what matters most to you. Your story doesn’t need to be dramatic. It just needs to be real.
Your story can be the catalyst you need to maximize your growth. Now it’s time to let it work for you.
Your Story Advantage Question:
What is one unique life experience you have had that has shaped who you are and why you do what you do? How might telling that story well cause you to stand out in a crowded marketplace?
